Ruben Amorim Admits AC Milan Didn’t Deserve Win After Late Draw With Juventus
AC Milan Drop Points in Turin After Last-Minute Equaliser
Ruben Amorim, head coach of AC Milan, openly acknowledged that his team did not deserve to claim victory following a 1-1 draw against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium. The late goal by Federico Gatti canceled out Alphadjo Cisse's early strike, ending both teams' perfect starts in Serie A.
Stoppage-Time Goal Snatches Point for Juventus
The match saw AC Milan take the lead through substitute Alphadjo Cisse, who cleverly scored by shooting between Pierre Kalulu’s legs. Despite holding the advantage for much of the game, Milan’s defense was broken in stoppage time when Federico Gatti headed home a cross from Teun Koopmeiners, securing a 1-1 draw.
Amorim Reflects on Team’s Performance
“We didn’t deserve to win, if we are honest, or more like Juventus didn’t deserve to lose,” said Amorim in an interview with DAZN Italia. “We tried to play our game, but we were not good with the ball. We had moments controlling the game in the first half, but we started losing possession too often and didn’t play well.”
The Portuguese coach emphasized the team’s ongoing development, noting they have been working together for only two months and still need time to improve. He described the match as tough and highlighted that despite some defensive resilience, the team struggled particularly when losing possession and facing Juventus’ transitions.
Cisse’s Goal Ends Milan’s Dry Spell Against Juventus
Cisse’s strike broke a long-standing goal drought for Milan against Juventus dating back to May 2023. It also made him the youngest player to score in his first two away matches under the three-points-for-a-win system.
Amorim added, “We have individual quality, but the simple things matter most—the way we receive and pass the ball. Today, we weren’t good at those fundamentals.”
He admitted Milan struggles when out of possession, especially against Juventus’ attacking pressure, yet remained firm on maintaining their style of play regardless of inconsistent results. Amorim expressed satisfaction with the team’s fighting spirit, acknowledging that Juventus did not deserve to lose either.
Looking Ahead: Tough Matches on the Horizon
AC Milan face a critical challenge to improve ball control and transition play before visiting Lazio on September 12. Meanwhile, Juventus will travel to Sassuolo the next day aiming to stay near the top of the table. For Amorim, correcting basic errors remains a priority to keep Milan competitive in the Scudetto race.
