Robert Lewandowski Praises Barcelona’s Signing of Rodri and Reflects on His Emotional Exit

Robert Lewandowski, who recently moved from Barcelona to Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire, has expressed strong approval for Barcelona’s signing of Rodri from Manchester City. The Polish striker believes the Spanish midfielder will provide vital experience and leadership for coach Hansi Flick's squad.

Lewandowski, who spent four years at Barcelona, acknowledged the gap his departure left in the team’s leadership. Flick sought to fill that void by bringing in Rodri, seeing him as the right player to take on responsibility following Lewandowski’s exit to the United States.

Why Rodri Fits the Team Perfectly

In an interview with Radio Marca, Lewandowski detailed why Rodri is an ideal choice for Barcelona. He praised Rodri’s tactical awareness and consistent performances on major international stages.

“He’s a player who knows what the team needs, how to play going forward, but also how to contribute a little more in defence,” Lewandowski said. “He’s the kind of experienced player I think this team needs. He’s been performing at the highest level not just at the World Cup, but for many years now.”

Reflecting on His Time at Barcelona

Lewandowski also looked back on his own time in Catalonia, which began in 2022 after leaving Bayern Munich. During his four seasons, he helped Barcelona secure three La Liga titles and earned the prestigious Pichichi trophy.

“It was a very special four years for me in Barcelona,” he shared. “But there comes a time when you have to try something different and take a new step, and I’m very happy now.”

Adjusting to Life in MLS

The transition from European football to the American league has required patience. Moving to the United States brought a big cultural and sporting change for Lewandowski as he settles into life with the Chicago Fire.

“It’s normal [to need time], not only because I’m leaving Europe, but also because I’m moving to the United States,” he admitted.

Staying Connected to Barcelona

Even while focusing on his new challenge in MLS, Lewandowski plans to keep a close watch on Barcelona’s progress under Flick. With Rodri now a key midfield figure, the club aims to continue building on recent domestic success.

“I’m not a very emotional person, I’m more cold-hearted, but this is a moment when I’ll always be there to support and help FC Barcelona and my former team-mates,” Lewandowski said. “I’m watching what’s happening now and I’m sure they’re going to win a lot of games.”
