Real Madrid Opens Disciplinary Proceedings Against Valverde and Tchouameni

Real Madrid have launched disciplinary proceedings against Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni after a training-ground clash that left Valverde in hospital and out of Sunday’s Clasico.

The incident, which came at the end of Thursday’s session at Valdebebas, followed an earlier reported altercation between the pair on Wednesday. This time, it escalated. According to the club, it ended with internal action and a medical report.

In a brief but pointed statement, Real Madrid confirmed they had opened cases against both players, noting that “following the events that took place this morning in the first team training session, it has decided to open disciplinary proceedings against our players Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni.” The club added that any resolutions would be communicated once the internal process is complete.

The sporting consequences arrived almost immediately.

A subsequent medical update revealed Valverde had suffered “cranioencephalic trauma” after tests carried out by the club’s medical staff. He has been ordered to rest for 10 to 14 days under standard protocols for that diagnosis and is currently at home “in good condition.”

The timing could hardly be worse. That recovery window rules the Uruguayan out of Sunday’s Clasico, a fixture already heavy with narrative. Barcelona travel to the Spanish capital knowing that avoiding defeat will be enough to clinch the league title in the backyard of their greatest rivals. Valverde, one of Real’s most relentless competitors, will watch it from home and may not feature again this season, which ends on May 24 against Athletic Bilbao at the Bernabeu.

This is not an isolated flashpoint inside Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

Defender Antonio Rudiger has already had to apologise to team-mates after another training-ground confrontation in recent days. The club kept that matter internal, but its existence has been widely reported and now forms part of an uncomfortable pattern.

The tension has not stopped there. Star forward Kylian Mbappe was also reported to have been involved in an angry exchange with a member of the coaching staff who was acting as an assistant referee during a training match. The disagreement did not lead to formal disciplinary action, but it underlined the frayed edges around a group used to operating under intense scrutiny.

Mbappe’s situation is complicated further by fitness and optics. He is still recovering from a hamstring injury and remains a doubt for this weekend’s clash with Barcelona. His decision to travel to Italy with his partner during his recovery has drawn criticism, especially as he returned only shortly before kick-off in last Sunday’s win over Espanyol.

On the pitch, Real Madrid stand on the brink of seeing their rivals crowned champions in their own stadium. Off it, they are dealing with a string of flashpoints that have forced the club to reach for its disciplinary code.

The title may be slipping away. The bigger question now is whether Real can steady the dressing room before the season’s final whistle.
