Rafael Leao stands at a crossroads. The winger has made no secret of it. Speaking in Brazil at an event for his clothing brand, the Portuguese forward laid bare the tension between gratitude to AC Milan and the pull of a new challenge.

“We'd already talked to the Rossoneri about the possibility of going elsewhere. But as long as I'm with them, I'll give it my all,” he said, the kind of line that sounds like both a promise and a farewell.

The backdrop is clear. After the World Cup and with his return to Milanello scheduled for the 29th, Leao’s camp has, according to reports, already opened talks with Fenerbahce. The negotiations underline what his words now confirm: the idea of leaving Milan is no longer a distant thought. It’s an active scenario.

On the Brazilian podcast “Podpah”, Leao went deeper into his current bond with the club he has called home for seven seasons.

“I've already spoken to the club about the possibility of trying a new experience. I don't know if it will happen. I have to report to Milanello on the 29th, and while I'm there, I'll give my all, always respecting the club that has given me everything.”

Respect runs through every sentence. So does restlessness.

Leao’s season in Serie A captured that contradiction. Nine goals and three assists are solid numbers, but he admitted himself that his campaign in red and black lacked consistency. The flashes of brilliance remained, the decisive moments too, yet the overall rhythm never quite settled. As the performances fluctuated, so did the relationship with the club.

“I think it's a club that has helped me a lot in every way, but in life, you have ambitions for other things too. If it happens, I'll study my options, but I'll remain an AC Milan player.”
