PSG Abandons Rodri Pursuit as Manchester City Secures Midfield Star
Paris Saint-Germain have stepped away from one of the biggest potential moves of the summer, making it clear they will not be coming for Manchester City’s midfield general Rodri.
Despite reports linking the Spain international with the European champions, PSG sources have told Sky Sports News the club have no intention of recruiting in central midfield in this window and have not discussed a move for the 30-year-old.
They believe that area of the pitch is already locked down.
Midfield settled in Paris
Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz and João Neves formed the core of the side that delivered last season’s Champions League final triumph, and that trio remains central to the club’s plans. Internally, there is no appetite to rip up a structure that just carried them to the top of Europe.
That stance effectively kills off talk of Rodri becoming a marquee arrival at the Parc des Princes. The Ligue 1 champions are turning their attention to other departments of the squad, leaving the middle of the pitch untouched despite Rodri’s status as one of the game’s most complete midfielders.
World champion going nowhere
Rodri’s stock has never been higher. This summer he captained Spain to World Cup glory and walked away with the Golden Ball as the tournament’s outstanding player, another major individual accolade on a CV already crowded with honours.
That kind of form naturally attracts suitors, but Manchester City are in no mood to listen. The Premier League club have “no desire” to part with one of their most influential figures and are instead focused on securing his future.
Rodri has entered the final year of his current contract. City want that situation resolved with fresh terms, not turned into an opportunity for rivals to circle.

For now, the midfielder’s immediate battle is physical rather than contractual. He is recovering from minor back surgery and is expected to miss the opening weeks of the new season.
City are prepared to wait. Enzo Maresca views him as a central pillar of his plans once he is back to full fitness, and nothing about that vision has shifted because of a short spell on the sidelines.
Madrid watch, Rodri focuses on Etihad return
PSG may be out of the picture, but the speculation will not vanish. Sky Sports News reports that Real Madrid still hold a long-term interest in the Spain captain, tracking a player who fits their historical taste for dominant midfielders.
For now, that interest remains parked in the future. Rodri’s focus is narrower and more immediate: get the back right, get back on the pitch, and resume command at the base of City’s midfield at the Etihad Stadium.
