Phil Foden Set to Sign New Long-Term Manchester City Deal
Phil Foden is closing in on a new four-year contract that will keep him at Manchester City until at least 2030, a deal that underlines both his status at the club and the scale of his ambitions in what should be the prime of his career.
The agreement, reported by The Athletic, will replace his current terms, which were due to run until 2027, and will include an option for an extra 12 months. The paperwork is not yet complete, but there is no tension here: player and club are aligned, convinced that their partnership still has more to give at the very top level.
A boy from the academy, now calling in a super agent
This is not just another extension quietly pushed through in a back office. Foden has turned to Rafaela Pimenta, one of the game’s most powerful agents and the figure who oversees Erling Haaland’s affairs, to handle the negotiations with City.
The move is telling. Foden, still only 25, has chosen heavyweight representation to ensure his new deal reflects his standing in a squad built to dominate Europe. Pimenta has led discussions with the Premier League champions, making sure the academy graduate’s output and influence are properly recognised as he enters his peak years.
For City, tying down a homegrown star with this profile is as much a statement as any marquee signing. For Foden, it is a clear sign that he intends to remain at the centre of the project he grew up inside.
From under-nines to serial winner
Foden’s story with City began before he was a teenager, at under-nine level, when he first walked into the club’s academy. He has grown with the institution and, in many ways, come to define its modern era.
Since his senior debut at 17, the numbers have piled up. Across 365 appearances, he has delivered 110 goals and 66 assists, a return that would be impressive for a centre-forward, let alone a playmaker asked to operate across the front line and in midfield.
The medals tell their own story. Six Premier League titles. Two FA Cups. A Champions League crown. Foden has been more than a promising youngster on the fringes; he has become a central figure in Pep Guardiola’s relentless winning machine, a player trusted on the biggest stages and in the tightest moments.
This season’s role – and a fight on two fronts
Even in a City squad packed with elite talent, Foden’s output this season has been significant. He has already produced 15 goal contributions in all competitions, helping drive another title challenge and pushing the club into yet another FA Cup final.
The picture is not entirely straightforward, though. In recent months, Guardiola has reduced his minutes, shuffling his attacking options and leaving Foden to battle for his place in the starting XI once again. For a player of his pedigree, that is both a familiar challenge and an uncomfortable one.
The stakes stretch beyond the Etihad. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, Foden is also fighting for his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England plans. A long-term contract at City will secure his club future, but his international prospects will depend on something far less negotiable: consistent starts, decisive performances, and the sense that he remains indispensable when the games really matter.
The deal will keep him in Manchester. The next two seasons will decide just how central he is to England’s next great push on the world stage.
