Peter Shalulile Joins Young Africans with Manqoba Mngqithi

Peter Shalulile has chosen a familiar face over a familiar league.

The Namibia international, fresh from ending a decorated six-year spell with Mamelodi Sundowns, has linked up with Manqoba Mngqithi at Young Africans, turning away interest from across Africa and the Middle East in the process.

At 32, Shalulile entered the market as one of the most coveted free agents on the continent. Clubs from multiple regions circled, with a move to Pyramids FC widely viewed as the frontrunner and a reunion with Rhulani Mokwena strongly tipped.

He went another way.

Instead of Cairo, it will be Dar es Salaam. Instead of Mokwena, it is Mngqithi again – the coach under whom he enjoyed some of his most prolific and influential seasons at Chloorkop.

Their history matters here. Mngqithi and Shalulile spent several successful years together at Sundowns, building a partnership that delivered trophies and turned the forward into one of Africa’s most reliable goal threats. That shared past has now been given a new stage at Young Africans, where expectation will be immediate and unforgiving.

For Yanga, landing a player of Shalulile’s pedigree under a coach who already knows how to unlock his strengths is a statement. For the striker, it is a calculated step: a new league, a new country, but a coach and system he trusts.

The trophies at Sundowns are behind him now. The next chapter, alongside Mngqithi once more, will show how much is still left in his boots.
