Orlando Pirates Mourn the Loss of Mrs Maleshoane Elizabeth Chakane
Orlando Pirates are in mourning after the passing of Mrs Maleshoane Elizabeth “Nani” Chakane, the beloved wife of long-serving club figure Mr Franklin Chakane, on 23 June 2026.
In a heartfelt message, the club placed its full support behind the Chakane family, asking the wider football community to hold them in their thoughts and prayers during a period of deep loss. Relatives, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by Mrs Chakane are being remembered alongside her immediate family.
Funeral Service
The funeral service will take place on Thursday, 2 July 2026, at the Uniting Reformed Church of South Africa in Orlando East, Soweto, starting at 09:00. After the service, the funeral procession is scheduled to leave at around 11:00 for the burial at Nasrec Cemetery.
Mourners
Mourners are being received at the family home at 1173 Jacobs Street, Protea North, Soweto, where the Chakane family has opened its doors to those wishing to pay their respects.
