Notts County Sign Ishe Samuels-Smith on Loan from Chelsea

Notts County have turned to Chelsea for reinforcements on their return to League One, securing versatile defender Ishe Samuels-Smith on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old, comfortable in multiple roles down the left side of the back line, arrives at Meadow Lane as the Magpies step back into the third tier for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign. It is a move that speaks to both ambition and a clear plan: add young, top-level pedigree to a squad that must adapt quickly to a higher level.

Samuels-Smith spent last season with Swansea City in the Championship, making six appearances during his loan spell. Those minutes, though limited, came in a demanding division and added another layer of experience to a player already trusted within England’s youth set-up at Under-20 level.

His route back to England’s EFL has been anything but straightforward. After a permanent switch to Strasbourg, Chelsea moved to bring him back to Stamford Bridge, underlining the regard in which he is held. Now, Notts County are the latest to benefit from that talent, dropping him straight into a club eager to establish itself rather than simply survive.

County’s director of football Richard Montague described Samuels-Smith as a player who can influence both sides of the game, highlighting his ability to contribute in attacking and defensive phases.
