Newcastle United Signs Aladji Bamba from Monaco for £34m
Newcastle United have found their next midfield enforcer – and they’ve gone to Monaco to get him.
The club have agreed a deal worth up to £34m for Aladji Bamba, the highly regarded 20-year-old who only made his senior debut in August 2025 but has climbed quickly into the top bracket of Ligue 1 midfielders. He is expected on Tyneside on Thursday to undergo a medical and sign what is described as a long-term contract.

Tonali out, Bamba in
Newcastle’s midfield has been in flux since Sandro Tonali’s departure to Tottenham last month. Losing a high-profile, ball-winning presence in the centre forced the club to accelerate their recruitment plans, with a clear brief: younger legs, high ceilings, and aggression without the ball.

The fee, rising to £34m with add-ons, underlines how firmly Newcastle believe in Bamba’s trajectory. A player who only stepped into senior football in August 2025 is now being asked to anchor a club with Champions League ambitions and one of the most demanding fanbases in England.
If he brings his Ligue 1 dominance to the Premier League, the Tonali question will fade quickly. If he doesn’t, Newcastle’s midfield rebuild becomes the defining gamble of their season.
