Napoli Pursues Gabriel Jesus as Key Signing

Napoli have set their sights firmly on Gabriel Jesus – and the entire market around them is starting to bend to that plan.

The Serie A club, as reported by TuttoMercatoweb, view the Arsenal forward as the ideal piece to refresh their attack this summer. At 29, with title-winning experience and a point to prove, Jesus has moved to the top of their shortlist as Massimiliano Allegri prepares a tactical overhaul for the new season.

But this is not a straightforward chase. It’s a puzzle, and Napoli have been moving the pieces one by one.

Lukaku exit unlocks the move

The key shift came with the departure of Romelu Lukaku. Frozen out and clearly not part of Allegri’s plans, the Belgian has completed a permanent move to Fenerbahce in a deal understood to be worth around €6 million (£5.1m).

That sale does more than clear a squad number. It slices into Napoli’s wage bill and opens the financial space needed to go after Jesus without tripping over financial regulations. The club are also weighing up further attacking exits, with the potential departure of Lorenzo Lucca another lever that could help fund what would be a significant investment in the Brazilian.

With each outgoing, the path to Jesus becomes a little clearer.

Branchini sighting fuels the fire

The intrigue around the deal spiked when Jesus’ agent, Giovanni Branchini, was spotted at Napoli’s pre-season base in Castel di Sangro. He publicly insisted he was only there to visit Allegri, but his appearance was enough to send the rumour mill spinning.

Napoli officials know they are in a strong position. With Lukaku gone and more room on the books, they can move from quiet interest to genuine pursuit. The money, crucially, is now there.

Arsenal ready to cash in

On Arsenal’s side, the timing lines up.

Jesus is heading into the final 12 months of his contract at the Emirates Stadium and is among the highest earners at the club. Arsenal, keen to reshape their own squad and reduce the wage load, are understood to be open to a sale now rather than risk losing him for free next summer.

The Gunners are thought to be seeking around €20m (£17m) for the former Manchester City forward – a fee that reflects both his quality and his contract situation.

On the pitch, his status has shifted. A string of injury problems over the past year has stalled his momentum, and he has slipped down Mikel Arteta’s attacking hierarchy. Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres now sit ahead of him in the pecking order, leaving Jesus in a far less central role than when he first arrived in North London.

For Arsenal, this is a clean break at the right time. For Napoli, it’s an opening.

Jesus ready for a new stage

Crucially for the Italians, Jesus is not resisting the idea. TuttoMercatoweb report that the Brazilian is fully open to a move to Naples and the chance to lead a new project under Allegri.

He is even said to be willing to reduce his current £265,000-a-week wages to make the transfer work. That kind of flexibility is rare at this level and underlines how attractive he finds the prospect of Serie A and a fresh start.

If Napoli can agree a fee with Arsenal, the next steps are already mapped out: Jesus would travel to Italy for his medical and, once the formalities are complete, slot straight into Allegri’s retooled front line.

The plan is clear. A new strike partnership with Rasmus Hojlund, guided by Allegri, built around Jesus’ movement and intelligence.

Napoli have cleared the runway. Now it comes down to whether they and Arsenal can land the deal before someone else tries to change the game.
