Mykhailo Mudryk Reflects on Tottenham Debut as Roberto De Zerbi Highlights Fitness Concerns

Mykhailo Mudryk Shares Joy After Tottenham Debut

Mykhailo Mudryk expressed great happiness after finally stepping onto the pitch for Tottenham Hotspur in a Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. This marked his first competitive appearance since November 2024, following a lengthy suspension. Mudryk joined Spurs on loan from Chelsea late in the transfer window and made his debut by coming off the bench in the 74th minute during a goalless draw at The City Ground.

The winger looked lively during his brief time on the field and took to Instagram shortly after the match to share his excitement: "No feeling better to be back on the pitch. First minutes in new colours. Thanks for support."

Roberto De Zerbi Emphasizes Need for Fitness Improvement

Despite Mudryk's promising cameo, Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi was cautious about rushing the player into regular starting roles. De Zerbi made it clear that Mudryk still needs to regain full physical fitness before he can consistently contribute to the team.

"He’s not ready yet. He’s working to reach the best physical condition. He needs time, he needs work," De Zerbi said during his post-match press conference, underscoring the physical demands of Tottenham’s tactical system.

Fierce Competition for Attacking Roles

The Spurs boss also touched on the tough competition on the left wing, where Mudryk operates. Mathys Tel is another contender for that spot, though both players have aspects to improve.

"In that position, we have Mathys Tel, big potential. But also Mathys takes too many wrong decisions, and Mudryk. So, two big players, two big potential players. But if we want to score, I think Marmoush has 15 goals. Solanke, the header for him, I consider a chance to score. It’s not a shot on goal. But how many shots did Nottingham have today?" De Zerbi added.

Upcoming Challenges for Tottenham and Mudryk

Mudryk will aim to build on his brief debut performance with increased sharpness in training as Tottenham face a busy schedule. They host Everton in the Premier League on September 12, followed by a trip to Anfield for an EFL Cup Round of 16 match against Liverpool three days later. Spurs then play Aston Villa at home on September 19. Managing Mudryk's playing time carefully will be key for the club’s medical and coaching staff during this demanding period.
