Anders Limpar, former Arsenal midfielder, insists Mikel Arteta is unlikely to leave the Gunners for clubs like Barcelona or Manchester City. Limpar points out that Arsenal has cemented itself among Europe’s elite, making it one of the finest managerial positions in world football.
The club’s consistent backing in the transfer market and status as contenders in multiple competitions give Arteta reasons to stay. According to Limpar, this setup at Arsenal is unmatched by any other top club.
Arsenal’s Rising Pull in the Transfer Market
In an interview with SveaCasino, Limpar highlighted Arsenal’s appeal to players globally. “Why would Mikel Arteta ever leave Arsenal when they are able to sign the best players in the world for him?” he said. “They are the best or second-best team in Europe. Everyone wants to come and play for Arsenal now. We are a massive club nowadays.”
Limpar added that winning the Premier League and pushing deep in four competitions attracts top talent. He noted that only players with exceptional quality fit at Arsenal, unlike smaller clubs such as Brighton or Fulham.
“Arteta won’t find a better setup at Barcelona or Manchester City than what he already has at Arsenal,” Limpar emphasized, also mentioning that the club continues to strengthen its squad with even better signings.
The Challenge of Managing a Star-Studded Squad
Despite praising Arsenal’s trajectory, Limpar warned that handling a roster packed with world-class players will test Arteta’s leadership severely this season. “To have a world-class team, you need ten world-class outfield players, but you also need more than ten world-class players who are on the bench or don’t play,” Limpar explained.
This situation presents one of the toughest challenges for any manager. “It was hard for Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp; it will be hard for Mikel Arteta too to keep his squad happy. That’s the hardest thing. Arteta’s real job starts now. He has to be a master psychologist to keep everyone engaged under his umbrella.”
Limpar further reflected on the pressure: “It’s a tough business to be a manager at a top club, but this has been Mikel Arteta’s dream, to have the ten best players available every game. There will be injuries, red cards, and changes in form. When players on the bench aren’t happy during those times, it doesn’t matter who you are.”
