Mikel Arteta Signs New Arsenal Contract with Major Pay Rise

Mikel Arteta has reached agreement on a new, improved contract with Premier League champions Arsenal, tightening the bond between club and manager at the height of their resurgence.

The Spaniard’s existing deal was due to run out at the end of this season, and negotiations have been rumbling on for months. Arsenal were always confident of keeping him. Now they have their breakthrough.

The final agreement is in place, with only formalities left before it is announced. While the club have not confirmed the exact length, the new contract is expected to carry Arteta into at least his 10th year in charge, having first walked through the doors as manager in December 2019.

The commitment is backed by a sizeable financial show of faith. Arteta’s new terms include a sharp increase on his current £10m-a-year salary, plus up to £5m in bonuses, underlining the value Arsenal place on the man who has turned them back into title winners.

“They [the fans] don't have to worry about any of that because I want to be here,” he said. “I'm extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with.”

Now the contract catches up with the reality: Arsenal have their manager, and their project, locked in for the long haul.
