Moments after Inter Miami’s 2-0 win over Cruz Azul in the Campeones Cup on Wednesday, Messi and MLS commissioner Don Garber were seen in what appeared to be a tense, animated exchange on the field.

According to the Associated Press, Messi repeatedly pointed at Garber while the two spoke post-match. The Inter Miami star initially gestured toward the commissioner and walked away, only to return later and point again as the conversation continued. The exact subject of the dispute remains unknown, and both Inter Miami and MLS declined to comment on the incident.

Whatever was said came on a night when Messi once again owned the stage with the ball at his feet.

The Argentine scored his 100th career goal for Inter Miami in the first half, breaking open the final and setting the tone for the club’s latest piece of silverware. He didn’t stop there. In the second half, Messi delivered a precise cross that Casemiro met with a firm header, doubling the lead and giving Miami the cushion it wanted.

Cruz Azul never found a way back. Miami never really looked like letting go.

The Campeones Cup now joins a growing collection of trophies in South Florida. Since Messi’s arrival, Inter Miami has lifted the Leagues Cup in 2023, captured the Supporters’ Shield in 2024 and claimed the MLS Cup in 2025. The Campeones Cup adds another line to a rapidly expanding honors list.
