Kylian Mbappe Misses France Training Due to Flu Ahead of Nations League Matches
Kylian Mbappe has missed France's group training sessions at Clairefontaine after showing flu symptoms just before the UEFA Nations League fixtures. The Real Madrid forward stayed indoors while his teammates trained outside, raising questions about his availability for the upcoming matches.
Flu Disrupts Captain’s Preparation
The French national team’s training camp near Paris faced a disruption when Mbappe was unable to join outdoor drills on Tuesday due to his illness. Official reports confirm that his flu symptoms limited him to indoor work only. At 27 years old, this is an unfortunate setback as he prepares to lead France under new management.
New Chapter for France Under Zidane
This camp represents the first major challenge for Zinedine Zidane since he took over as head coach after the 2026 World Cup. Despite having a talented squad, the absence of Mbappe, who holds the record as the all-time top World Cup goalscorer with 22 goals, complicates Zidane's tactical plans. While Mbappe recovers indoors, the rest of the players continued their outdoor sessions, adapting to Zidane's coaching style.
Busy Nations League Schedule Ahead
France face a packed fixture list in the next two weeks. Their campaign kicks off with a difficult away game against Turkey on Friday, September 25, followed by another trip to Belgium three days later. Then they return home to face Italy on October 2 and meet Belgium again on October 5. With four intense matches coming up in quick succession, the medical staff at Clairefontaine are focused on getting Mbappe fit to play.
Recovery and Squad Decisions
The focus now shifts to how soon Mbappe can recover and rejoin full training. Since flu is common during this season, the medical team expects him to be back once symptoms subside. Whether he starts or is rested will be decided closer to the first match in Turkey.
