Marc Cucurella has expressed strong confidence in Real Madrid having an outstanding season following the return of Jose Mourinho to the Santiago Bernabeu. The Spanish left-back, who recently transferred from Chelsea for £47.5m, is excited about working with the renowned Portuguese manager once again.

After just one day of training with the squad, Cucurella already noticed the positive influence Mourinho has had on the team. Speaking to Real Madrid TV, he remarked that Mourinho brought "a lot of confidence and naturalness" to the sessions. He emphasized the importance of playing with enjoyment and focusing on what they know, adding that everyone’s goal is to win and have a great year.

Although Cucurella came through Barcelona’s La Masia academy, the opportunity to join the 15-time European champions was irresistible. Having contributed to Spain’s World Cup victory before moving to Madrid, he considers Real Madrid the pinnacle of club football in Europe. His decision to come back to Spain after successful seasons with Brighton and Chelsea was largely influenced by the chance to be part of Mourinho’s project at such a prestigious club.

“As a kid starting out playing football, then having the opportunity to play for a club like this, it’s very hard to turn down,” said Cucurella. “When the opportunity came, I didn’t hesitate for a second. I’ve seen those magical nights, those comebacks at the Bernabeu, all the Champions League titles they’ve lifted. Being part of it is a huge responsibility but also a very beautiful and important challenge.”

The move marks an important milestone for the 28-year-old, who made 163 appearances for Chelsea and helped them win the Conference League and Club World Cup in 2025. Joining a star-packed recruitment drive that includes Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, and Denzel Dumfries, Cucurella understands the high expectations at Real Madrid. He sees this transfer as recognition of his dedication throughout his career, which began at Getafe and Eibar before flourishing in England.
