The verdict was blunt: a deal for Tchouameni is “not currently realistic” because of the cost. The feeling is that even if Real Madrid do decide to sell, the asking price would land well beyond what United can sensibly pay under current financial constraints.
Yet the dream persists.
“Tchouameni is a dream signing for United,” the source made clear. If Madrid were to send the right signals on price, United would be ready to move. No hesitation, no dithering. The problem is simple: nobody at Old Trafford knows what that number would be, or whether Real are genuinely prepared to cash in at all.
A test of United’s ambition
So United wait, work and hope. Carrick’s rebuild has started with smart, opportunistic business in Santos and Tielemans, but the defining question of their summer sits 900 miles away, wrapped in white.
