Manchester United have identified Lewis Hall as a key defensive target this summer, but Newcastle United are preparing to slam the door shut before any serious bid can land.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has doubled down on United’s admiration for the 19-year-old, revealing that the club see the left-back as an “ideal” addition and have already given him internal approval as a target. Hall is not just one of many names on a longlist; he sits firmly on United’s shortlist as they look to reshape their back line.

United have made exploratory contacts to gauge the conditions of a potential deal. The interest is real, the appreciation is strong, and the need in that position is obvious.

The problem? Newcastle.

Romano made it clear that Newcastle have no intention of cashing in on Hall. After significant outgoing business this summer involving Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes – with Guimaraes expected to join Arsenal once a club-to-club agreement is finalised – the Tyneside club see Hall as a player to keep, not another asset to move on.
