Manchester United Scouts Target Kaua Elias as Striker Bid Looms
Manchester United’s summer rebuild is not finished yet, and the next move may already be taking shape in Lviv.
Club scouts were in the stands on Monday to watch Shakhtar Donetsk forward Kaua Elias tear Kudrivka apart with a perfect hat-trick in a 5-1 win. Left foot, right foot, header – the full set, delivered in front of representatives from some of Europe’s heaviest hitters.
United and Arsenal both monitored the 20-year-old Brazilian, according to reports, with Shakhtar valuing him at around £30million and an official offer now expected. AC Milan and Porto are also in the frame, turning what began as a scouting mission into a brewing transfer battle.
A rising No.9 on Europe’s radar
Elias only joined Shakhtar from Fluminense in 2025, but his impact has been sharp enough to jolt the attention of elite clubs. He has 12 goals and three assists in 39 appearances so far – solid numbers for a young striker still adapting to European football and the demands of a side that regularly reshapes itself.
Inside Old Trafford, the feedback has been emphatic. After a series of recent assessments, United scouts reported that Elias carries the “potential to develop into a top-level centre-forward” and, crucially, that his game fits the club’s preferred style.
Those close to the process describe him as “highly compatible with United’s press-heavy, fast-transition system” – the kind of forward who can lead the line, harry defenders, and still offer penalty-box presence when the move explodes into life.
Shakhtar, as ever, know what they have. Their track record of developing and selling attacking talent means £30m will be a starting point, not a surprise.
Competition building for Brazilian prospect
United’s interest is serious, but they are not alone. Arsenal have been tracking Elias for several weeks, weighing up their own long-term plans in attack. Milan’s hierarchy are also said to be considering a bid, while Porto have joined the list of suitors.
Signals to the player’s camp have already gone beyond simple enquiries. Elias’ representatives are understood to have received “concrete” indications of intent from multiple clubs, and the player is open to a move into one of Europe’s top leagues.
The race is forming quickly. The question now is who moves first, and who blinks at Shakhtar’s valuation.
A clear gap in United’s forward line
The interest from Old Trafford is not theoretical. It stems from a very real gap in Michael Carrick’s squad.
At present, only Benjamin Sesko stands out as a recognised out-and-out centre-forward among the senior options. Joshua Zirkzee is expected to depart, with Juventus pushing to take him to Serie A, which would strip away another attacking option.
United have acted decisively in midfield, bringing in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to reshape the centre of the pitch. They are still in the market for a third midfielder, a full-back and, crucially, a striker before the window closes.
The need up front is obvious. The scouting push for Elias reflects that.
A busy window, and a decision to make
The club’s churn has not been limited to outfield players. On Friday, goalkeeper Altay Bayindir left for Celta Vigo on an initial loan, with the La Liga side holding an option to make the move permanent for £3.5m. Space is opening up across the squad, and United’s recruitment team are under pressure to fill it smartly rather than simply quickly.
Into that landscape steps Kaua Elias – young, relatively untested at the very highest level, but already delivering the kind of performances that drag scouts to cold seats and long flights.
United know the profile they want. They believe Elias fits it. Arsenal and Milan think the same.
With weeks still left in the window and Shakhtar holding a valuable card, the next move will say plenty about how bold United are prepared to be in reshaping their attack for the seasons ahead.
