Their preseason has not started smoothly. A 3-0 defeat to Mallorca in their opening fixture raised eyebrows, with Kvaratskhelia the only regular outfield starter in the initial XI. That result will sting. United can expect a response.
Heaton’s night, Heath’s lesson
If the outfield is about options and rotation, the goalkeeping department is stripped bare. United travel without their first and second choice keepers, which leaves Tom Heaton as the senior man and, in all likelihood, the 90-minute constant.

On paper, this is preseason fixture number four. In reality, it is a measuring stick. Carrick has eased his squad through the early stages; now comes a night when structure, fitness and decision-making collide with elite opposition.
For PSG, it is a chance to shake off the Mallorca defeat and reassert standards. For United, it is a chance to see whether the ideas built on the training ground can hold up under the weight of European champions and a rising summer tempo.
Gothenburg might not decide a season, but it will tell both clubs exactly how far they still have to go.
