Manchester United Pursue Francisco Conceicao as Carrick's Ideal Winger
Manchester United’s rebuild under Michael Carrick already has momentum. Five signings are through the door, Champions League football is back on the agenda, and the club’s new powerbrokers at INEOS are pushing hard for a squad built in their manager’s image.
Now the focus is sharpening on one name: Francisco Conceicao.
Carrick’s ideal winger
An Italian report from Juventus-focused outlet TuttoJuve claims Carrick has set his sights on the Portugal international, viewing the 23-year-old as a perfect fit for his evolving United side.
United have already added Karl Darlow, Kit Margetson, Andrey Santos, Tynan Thompson and Youri Tielemans this summer. Two midfielders are in, and the club still want a third. On top of that, INEOS are hunting a striker to support Benjamin Sesko.
Yet Carrick’s gaze has drifted to the flanks. Specifically, to Turin.
Conceicao has grown into one of Serie A’s standout wingers, operating mainly from the right but comfortable switching sides. Across the 2025/26 season he produced four goals and five assists in 42 appearances in all competitions for Juventus – numbers that only tell part of the story for a player prized for his directness and one‑v‑one threat.
According to TuttoJuve, United are already plotting a move for the summer of 2026, with Carrick personally pushing the case. The outlet reports that United “consider Conceicao to be the perfect fit for their project,” highlighting the winger’s ability to beat defenders, create chances and operate on both flanks. Inside Old Trafford, that profile is seen as a way to inject more unpredictability into an attack that still needs variety at the highest level.
The message from Carrick is clear: he wants a wide player who can unpick deep defences on his own.
Juventus set a high bar
There is one major obstacle. Juventus do not want to sell.
Conceicao is tied to the Bianconeri until 2030, a long contract that hands the Italian club considerable leverage. TuttoJuve reports that Juventus would demand at least €50 million (around £43m, $57.4m) from United’s INEOS ownership to even start a conversation.
“Anyone wishing to acquire Conceicao will have to make a very significant offer,” the outlet notes, adding that Juve have “estimated him at around €50 million, a figure that would allow the Bianconeri to realise a significant capital gain compared to the investment made a year ago.”
The valuation is doing more than protecting an asset. It underlines how firmly Juventus believe in the player’s future and how reluctant they are to entertain cut‑price bids.
Their stance is described as “clear”: Conceicao is seen as fitting “perfectly” into Luciano Spalletti’s plans and is not among the players expected to leave Turin in this window. Only an offer on the kind of scale that clubs privately label “unmarketable” would force a rethink in the boardroom.
A long game for United
For United, that sets up a familiar scenario. They have identified a primary target early, one who fits a defined tactical role, but face a selling club in no mood to negotiate.
INEOS have spoken of smarter, more disciplined recruitment. This pursuit will test that resolve. Do they walk away from a winger Carrick clearly admires, or do they push towards that €50m mark for a player Juventus are determined to keep?
United’s summer business shows they are building with the Champions League in mind. The question now is whether their ambition stretches to prising one of Serie A’s most dangerous wide men out of Turin – and how high they are prepared to climb to make Carrick’s ideal winger a reality.
