Luis Diaz Backs Harry Kane to Claim 2026 Ballon d'Or After Strong Start at Bayern Munich

Luis Diaz, the Bayern Munich winger, has openly supported his teammate Harry Kane for winning the 2026 Ballon d'Or. The Colombian star admired Kane’s impressive form, especially after their recent DFB-Pokal match, where both players helped avoid an upset.

Bayern’s Narrow Escape in the DFB-Pokal

Bayern Munich began their defense of the DFB-Pokal title with a 4-1 win against second-division side Osnabrück, though they faced an early scare. Manager Vincent Kompany fielded a strong lineup including Kane, Diaz, Michael Olise, and Joshua Kimmich, showing no underestimation of their opponents.

Osnabrück shocked Bayern by taking the lead within five minutes when Robin Meissner struck a stunning volley from 30 yards past goalkeeper Jonas Urbig. Bayern regained control quickly, with Kane equalizing 13 minutes later through a precise volley. Goals from Tom Bischof, Olise, and a late Kane penalty secured the comfortable win and progression to the next round.

Diaz Highlights Kane’s Complete Skill Set

“He’s the best in the world, without a doubt,”

Diaz told ESPN, praising Kane’s consistency and all-around abilities. “He proved it throughout last season and has been showing it for a long time. He can do everything. I admire him a lot because I feel like he never does anything wrong.”

The former Liverpool man also pointed out Kane’s selflessness on the pitch: “He makes his teammates play, he runs, defends, scores goals, and he can also score from long range.”

Kane’s Remarkable 2025-26 Season

Kane’s case for the Ballon d’Or is strong following an extraordinary campaign. The England captain scored 73 goals and provided eight assists in 65 appearances for club and country. His tally included six goals at the 2026 World Cup, contributing to England’s third-place finish.

This goal total is the second-best since 2000, only behind Lionel Messi’s record-breaking 82-goal season for Barcelona and Argentina in 2011-12.

“His mentality is incredible,”

Diaz said. “For me, he’s one of the main contenders to win the Ballon d’Or. I hope he can lift it and that we can all be happy for him.”

Bayern Look to Keep Momentum in Bundesliga

With Kane already scoring this season, Bayern aim to continue their strong start. After consecutive dominant wins and nine goals in two matches, Kompany’s squad prepares to face Schalke in their upcoming Bundesliga clash. Schalke recently earned promotion back to the German top flight.
