Lucy O’Brien Signs New Contract with Ipswich Town

Lucy O’Brien has tied her future to Ipswich Town, signing a new contract that keeps the attacker at Portman Road through the 2026/27 season.

Ipswich confirmed the agreement on their official website on Friday afternoon, ending any uncertainty over the 22-year-old’s immediate future as her previous deal was due to expire this summer.

A product of the club’s own academy, O’Brien has grown with Ipswich Town. She came through the youth ranks, broke into the senior side and has stayed put ever since, becoming one of the faces of the Tractor Girls’ rise.

Last season brought a major milestone. O’Brien helped Ipswich Town lift the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division title in 2024/25, a landmark campaign that underlined the club’s ambition and her importance within it. She also gained valuable experience in Barclays WSL2, making 12 appearances for the Sussex side over the course of the season.

For Ipswich, the decision to move quickly was simple. At 22, O’Brien is already proven but still developing, and the club view her as a central figure for at least the next 12 months after agreeing fresh terms.

“This club has been such a big part of my life since I first joined and I’m delighted to sign a new deal here,” O’Brien said. “The team showed so much fight and togetherness last season and everyone is so eager to continue that progress and kick on in the year ahead.”

Ipswich Town are expected to confirm further squad decisions in the coming weeks, but locking in one of their homegrown attacking talents offers an early statement: the core that delivered a title is not being broken up.
