Liverpool are preparing to test Paris Saint-Germain’s resolve with an opening offer for Bradley Barcola, with the French winger emerging as the club’s marquee target to usher in the post-Mohamed Salah era, according to reports in The Athletic.
At 23, Barcola is no longer just a prospect on the rise. He is the name Liverpool’s hierarchy have reportedly ring-fenced at the top of their shortlist, the player they see as the long-term reference point in their attack after Salah’s departure from Anfield at the end of last season.
The interest is mutual. Barcola is understood to be keen on the move, eager for a central role at a leading European club rather than sharing the spotlight in Paris. He has already lived one high-pressure footballing life at PSG; the next step, in his mind, is to lead, not merely complement.
A €170m stand-off
There is, however, a problem the size of Paris between the two clubs.
PSG are said to be demanding close to €170m to even contemplate a sale. That figure reflects both the length of Barcola’s current deal — which runs until 2028 — and the French champions’ usual stance when Europe’s heavyweights come calling. They do not like being backed into corners, and they price accordingly.
Liverpool, for their part, are not playing along with that number. The club’s recruitment team are reportedly working to a valuation closer to €120m, a huge outlay in itself but still some distance from PSG’s starting point. Any agreement will require one side to blink.
What gives Liverpool hope is Barcola’s contract situation. Not the length of it, but the mood around it. The winger is said to be reluctant to extend his deal in Paris, and Liverpool intend to lean on that hesitation. If a renewal continues to stall, the leverage slowly shifts: keep an unsettled player or cash in at a premium while you still can.

Barcola’s numbers underline why Liverpool are prepared to push hard.
Across the 2025-26 season, he made 49 appearances for PSG in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists for Les Rouge et Bleu. Those figures, delivered in a squad stacked with attacking options, hint at a player capable of carrying more responsibility in a system built around him.
Liverpool see that ceiling. A wide forward with end product, already hardened by the scrutiny of Paris, now eyeing a stage where he can be the focal point rather than a rotating piece in a superstar ensemble.
For PSG, the calculation is brutal but familiar: hold firm and risk a restless talent, or bank a nine-figure fee for a player who no longer seems convinced by a long-term future at the Parc des Princes.
