Liverpool Target Ajax Star Mika Godts as PSG Initiates Bid
Liverpool have already raided the market for one left-sided threat this summer. It may not be their last.
Osasuna winger Victor Munoz has arrived at Anfield in a £35 million deal, Liverpool beating Newcastle United to the 22-year-old’s signature. That battle felt significant at the time, not least because it came as the club weighed up an £86 million offer for RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande.
Diomande, though, is now heading towards Real Madrid. That door is closing. Liverpool’s recruitment team have turned the handle on another.
New name on the radar
Attention has swung towards Amsterdam and a winger who has spent the past year tearing up Eredivisie defences.
Mika Godts delivered outstanding numbers for Ajax last season: 17 goals and 15 assists in 44 appearances. For a 21-year-old wide player still finding his way at the top level, those are not just promising figures – they are elite output.
He has not eased into the new campaign either. Ajax’s UEFA Conference League qualifying ties against Vojvodina have brought two 4-1 wins and an assist from Godts in each game. He is influencing matches, not just decorating them.
That kind of form does not stay secret for long. Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham have all been linked with the Belgian, and now Liverpool have joined that group, according to TEAMtalk.
The pattern is familiar. Identify a young, high-ceiling attacker. Move before the market explodes. Outmanoeuvre domestic rivals. It is the same playbook that brought Munoz through the door ahead of Newcastle.
This time, though, the competition stretches beyond England.
PSG make their move
Over the weekend, Premier League clubs were informed that Paris Saint-Germain have stepped up their pursuit of Godts and have now submitted an opening bid.
PSG had tracked Diomande as well, only to miss out as the forward edged towards Madrid. Rather than dwell on that, the French champions have pivoted quickly. Football advisor Luis Campos is a strong admirer of Godts and believes the winger fits Luis Enrique’s long-term vision at the Parc des Princes.
Talks between PSG and the player’s camp have been described as positive. Godts is open to a move to Ligue 1, but he knows what that would mean: a fight for minutes in one of Europe’s deepest attacking units.
Ajax, as ever, are prepared to sell at the right moment and at the right price. Technical director Jordi Cruyff has already gone public, confirming that “Godts will leave, but only at the right time and for the right price.”
That price is understood to be around £51 million. For a winger yet to test himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues, it is a substantial fee. Compared with the £86 million Liverpool were considering for Diomande, though, Godts represents a cheaper – and arguably more flexible – option.
Liverpool’s decision point
For Liverpool, the equation is clear. They have already strengthened the left flank with Munoz, but the club remains in the market for another left-sided winger. The profile is obvious: young, explosive, productive, and comfortable in a high-intensity system.
Godts ticks every box. He carries end product, has European experience, and is used to the pressure that comes with wearing an Ajax shirt.
The catch is timing. With PSG already at the table and Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham lurking, hesitation comes with a cost. If Liverpool truly see Godts as part of their next attacking cycle, this is not a race they can jog.
Ajax have signalled the player will go. PSG have made the first move. The Premier League suitors are watching the board.
