Liverpool closing in on Ronald Araujo loan from Barcelona

Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Ronald Araujo, with the Uruguay defender set to join on a season-long loan from Barcelona that includes an option to buy.

The 27-year-old is expected to link up with Liverpool’s squad this weekend, a timeline that underlines how advanced talks have become. If completed, it would be one of the standout defensive moves of the window: a current Barcelona captain preparing to swap Camp Nou for Anfield, at least initially on a temporary deal.

Araujo’s pedigree is not in doubt. Since arriving from Uruguayan side Boston River in 2018, he has passed the 200-appearance mark for Barcelona and helped the club lift La Liga in three of the past four seasons. His rise from relative unknown to the heart of the Barça back line was rapid, built on aggressive defending, recovery pace and a willingness to lead.
