Liverpool Pursues Bradley Barcola Amid Valuation Dispute

Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola has reached the hard part: the numbers.

The winger is Liverpool’s chosen heir to Mohamed Salah, the priority target identified weeks ago and pushed hard since. Barcola is open to the move. Personal terms are not an issue. The player wants Liverpool, Liverpool want the player.

The problem sits in Paris.

Big target, bigger gap

Sky Sports reporters Amar Mehta and Vinny O’Connor revealed on Friday evening that, while Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have held preliminary talks, there remains a “significant gap” between the clubs’ valuations of Barcola. PSG’s stance on the fee is described as making the deal “difficult to complete”.

That tallies with the figures circulating around the French champions. Various reports have suggested PSG want between €145m and €170m (£125m-£145m) for the 21-year-old. Whichever end of that range proves closer to reality, it is far beyond what Liverpool have so far been prepared to commit.

For a club already forced to redraw their attacking plans after Salah’s departure, it’s an uncomfortable standoff.

‘Deal in principle’ talk undercut

Earlier on Friday, Liverpool-focused outlet DaveOCKOP claimed the two clubs had reached an agreement in principle for Barcola. Their report suggested a fee of around €128m (£110m), with add-ons structured more favourably than earlier proposals.

It painted a very different picture: Liverpool and PSG aligned on the framework, Barcola pushing for Anfield, and no new deal expected with the European champions.

But the wider transfer landscape has not moved in step with that version of events. No major outlet has backed up the claim of an agreement. Instead, Sky Sports’ line is that the gap in valuation remains, and that is far more consistent with the current briefing from those close to the talks.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reinforced that stance, stating that negotiations are ongoing between Liverpool and PSG but that “nothing is agreed or even at final stages as of now”. He reiterated that Barcola is Liverpool’s top target and has wanted the move since May, yet confirmed there has been “no breakthrough in talks yet”.

The desire is clear. The deal is not.

Liverpool’s dilemma

Liverpool have already seen other options to replace Salah disappear from the market. That reality adds weight to every conversation with PSG. When one target becomes the target, leverage shifts.

Right now, PSG hold it.

If Liverpool are to land Barcola, they will have to move beyond their current position. That means either stretching financially towards PSG’s demands or finding a creative structure that Paris can live with.

Until that happens, this remains what it is: a chase, not a capture.
