Liverpool's Path to Bradley Barcola Clears as Arsenal Focus on Morgan Rogers

Aston Villa’s search for a new “top winger” has cracked open the summer market – and may have handed Liverpool the clearest route yet to Bradley Barcola.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Villa have begun working on a marquee wide addition after wrapping up deals for Manzambi and João Gomes and while progressing on a move for Estupiñán at left-back. The key detail lies elsewhere: Arsenal are now expected to “accelerate” their push for Morgan Rogers.

Romano reported on Thursday night that the Gunners are prepared to go hard for the England international, with talks already advanced on the player’s side. Arsenal, he stressed, have always wanted both Rogers and Christos Tzolis, and the Rogers pursuit is a separate case entirely.

Crucially, there’s been no move from Mikel Arteta’s side for Barcola. No talks, no negotiations, no stealth approach in the background. Their focus is Rogers.

Barcola lane clears for Liverpool

With Arsenal seemingly stepping away from Barcola, at least for now, Andoni Iraola’s side suddenly find themselves with a far less congested road to the France international. Paris Saint-Germain will not sell cheaply – that much has been made clear. The left-sided attacker is regarded as a premium asset, and prising him away will demand a significant fee.

But the market around him matters. One heavyweight rival chasing a different winger is one less complication for Liverpool.

So far, the Merseyside club have only added Victor Muñoz in this window. The World Cup has slowed business across Europe, and Liverpool are no exception, yet the sense lingers that something else is at play. It feels like a waiting game built around one big decision.

Are Liverpool holding back until they know the exact price PSG will demand for Barcola? It would make sense. Committing major funds elsewhere, then discovering Barcola sits just beyond their ceiling, would be a brutal misstep in a summer when they cannot afford one.

Decision time at Anfield

If that is the strategy, it comes with risk. Delay can be costly. Targets move, markets shift, and squad gaps remain unfilled while the clock ticks towards 1 September.

Liverpool’s recruitment team, led by Richard Hughes, will already have a working idea of PSG’s expectations. They will know roughly where the French champions value Barcola and how far Liverpool can realistically stretch to match it.

That’s the crux. If Liverpool have waited this long, they cannot now discover the deal is “too rich” and simply walk away, leaving Iraola short of attacking depth and scrambling for alternatives late in the window. Not at this stage. Not with the squad still clearly needing reinforcements.

Aston Villa have made their move and pointed Arsenal firmly towards Morgan Rogers. The path to Bradley Barcola has rarely looked clearer.

Now Liverpool must decide whether they are prepared to pay the price that clarity demands.
