Liverpool Intensify Bid for Bradley Barcola Amid PSG Standoff
Liverpool have pushed their chips to the middle of the table for Bradley Barcola, raising their offer and sharpening their focus on the Paris Saint-Germain winger in a move that could reshape their forward line.
After losing out on Yan Diomande in a transfer saga that veered from Liverpool to PSG and then dramatically to Real Madrid, the Anfield hierarchy have pivoted hard. Barcola is now the priority. And he wants the move.
The 23-year-old has been given clear assurances by new head coach Andoni Iraola: more minutes, a central role, a chance to grow into a leading figure in Liverpool’s next attacking era. That promise has tilted Barcola firmly towards Merseyside.
Liverpool and PSG locked in over price
The two clubs, though, are still staring at each other across a sizeable financial gap.
Liverpool opened talks by signalling they were prepared to go to €100m (£86m) for Barcola. PSG, braced for his departure and already plotting their response in the market, set their price far higher – €150m (£128.5m).
The Premier League side have now gone again. According to BBC Sport, Liverpool have indicated they are ready to raise their bid to £100m (€117m) to get the deal done. It is a serious escalation, and a clear statement of intent.
The pressure is now on PSG to decide how hard they want to hold the line. They have already begun planning for life after Barcola, targeting Maghnes Akliouche of Monaco and Ajax’s Mika Godts as potential replacements on the flanks. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that “official club-to-club talks” are underway, underlining that this is no tentative enquiry. This is a live negotiation.
If the clubs can finally meet in the middle on the fee, the rest should move quickly. Personal terms are not expected to be a stumbling block; Barcola’s desire to join Iraola’s project is already clear.
Double wing overhaul: Mbaye in the frame
Liverpool’s plans do not stop at one winger.
Behind the scenes, they are working on a double move that would land both Barcola and his PSG team-mate Ibrahim Mbaye, the 18-year-old who caught the eye with Senegal at the World Cup.
Reliable French reporter Fabrice Hawkins has reported that Liverpool have made contact with PSG over Mbaye, as they look to refresh both sides of their attack in one sweep. The fit is obvious: Barcola favours the left, Mbaye prefers the right. Two natural wide options, two different profiles, one coordinated overhaul.
On Tuesday night, Romano added a fresh layer to the story, revealing that Liverpool have already spoken to Mbaye’s new agent, Jorge Mendes. The youngster has proposals from Bundesliga clubs and had been close to joining RB Leipzig, but that deal collapsed when Diomande’s move to PSG fell through.
Now Mbaye is giving priority to the Liverpool project, with talks expected to continue.
Liverpool, then, find themselves in a rare position: in direct negotiation with PSG for two wingers at once, one a marquee €100m-plus target, the other one of the most intriguing young wide players in Europe.
If they pull it off, Iraola will walk into his first season at Anfield with a retooled front line and a very different set of options on either flank.
