Lamine Yamal on What Barcelona Needs to Claim Champions League Glory
Lamine Yamal has expressed that Barcelona is aiming for more than just a strong season start. The team has bigger goals in sight.
The Blaugrana have emerged as one of the standout teams this year, and Yamal believes their mix of talent and unity could lead them to major titles.
Yamal Sees Luck and Experience as Key in Europe
For Barcelona, the Champions League represents a tough challenge where a single bad game can derail the entire campaign. Yamal pointed out that luck and experience often tip the scales when matches are so closely contested.
"It all comes down to fate. The Champions League isn’t decided in a single match; you can play badly and lose the title. So you need luck, along with experience, and these things build up year after year," he said.
Barcelona can control how they perform, but knockout rounds often hinge on fine details like injuries, finishing, pressure handling, and moments of fortune.
Despite that, Yamal remains hopeful.
"I hope luck is on our side this year. We’re playing to win the title; we’re not here just for a stroll. We want to win and bring the trophy back to Barcelona, and God willing, we’ll achieve victory this year."
Different Strengths from Raphinha and Lewandowski
When asked to compare Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, Yamal avoided picking a favorite. Instead, he explained how their unique abilities complement the team’s play.
"I don’t think it’s a question of better or worse. The team adapts to different players, and each player has different strengths. Robert stands out for his ability to finish attacking moves, whilst Raphinha is a great passer. Each has their own strengths and skills, and every player stands out for what they do."
A Winning Mentality Fuels Barcelona's Strong Start
Yamal praised the squad's growth, mentioning that newcomers have quickly blended in and that existing players' understanding is improving daily. This blend has powered their impressive early season form.
"We’re in great form at the moment and keen to keep playing entertaining and exciting football. I think there’s been a step up in standard, performance and quality, both because of the new players who have settled in well and because of the chemistry between the established players, which is growing stronger by the day."
He also stressed the collective mindset driving the team forward.
"We all play with the same mindset – a winning mindset – and we’ll always do what we believe is best for the team. We’re one big family within the squad, and our aim is always to win."
