Lamine Yamal on Barcelona's Champions League Focus: A Positive Drive

Lamine Yamal Discusses Barcelona's Champions League Ambition

Barcelona’s young talent Lamine Yamal has expressed that the club's strong desire to win the Champions League is something positive. He suggested it would be a weak mindset not to aim for European success under coach Hansi Flick.

Although Barcelona hasn't won the Champions League since 2015, they have made notable progress by reaching the semi-finals and quarter-finals in recent seasons with Flick at the helm.

Champions League Remains a Priority

For the 2026-27 season, the Champions League is clearly back as a major target. Yamal shared with Movistar his thoughts on this focus:

"I like that people come to the dressing room and believe that we can win the Champions League. The problem would be if someone said we will win it no matter what, because you never know that. But being obsessed with winning it, I think that's a good thing in the end."

He added that Barcelona has a history of greatness and has previously claimed European glory. Given their squad now, it would be somewhat timid not to set sights on the Champions League alongside domestic success.

Ambitions Extend Beyond Europe

Yamal hasn’t lost sight of La Liga either, aiming for a triple title haul with Flick’s team. He emphasized resilience during tough moments in matches:

"We are going for the League, we can win both the League and the Champions League. We have to be a team that sticks together through those bad 20 minutes,"

This reflects how small periods within games can shape a team's chances of lifting trophies.
