SAN JOSE, Calif. – Keira Barry’s rise has been building quietly. It just became impossible to ignore.
The Bay FC forward, born in Congleton, England, has earned her first senior call-up to the England Women’s National Team, named in a 24-player squad for a pair of 2027 World Cup qualifiers against Spain and Iceland this month. It is her first senior selection and her first international nod of 2026.
Only weeks ago, Barry was pencilled in for England’s U-23s for the April window, alongside Bay FC teammate Anouk Denton. That seemed the natural next step. She has been a steady presence through England’s youth ranks, most recently turning out for the Young Lionesses U-23 side in December 2025.
Start in the NWSL
Then came her start to life in the NWSL.
Barry made her Bay FC and league debut on March 14, coming off the bench against Denver Summit FC. Two weeks later, on March 28, she not only earned her first NWSL start but marked it with her first NWSL goal. That kind of impact, that quickly, tends to change plans.
The Manchester United product now bypasses the age-group camp and walks straight into a senior squad picked by Head Coach Sarah Wiegman for a crucial early stretch of World Cup qualifying. England host Spain at Wembley Stadium, connected by EE, on Tuesday, April 14, before heading to Reykjavik to meet Iceland on Saturday, April 18.
That second match carries extra weight: it will be the 500th game in Lionesses history, a landmark occasion that now doubles as Barry’s first taste of senior international tournament qualifying.
Broader Story for Bay FC
For Bay FC, her selection is part of a broader story. The expansion club is sending a small wave of talent across the globe for the April international window, with players representing five different federations.
- Defender Sydney Collins links up with Canada.
- Aldana Cometti joins Argentina.
- Denton reports to England’s U-23s as originally planned.
- The United States calls in midfielder Claire Hutton, while forwards Onyeka Gamero and Alex Pfeiffer head to the U.S. U-20s.
- Italian forward Cristiana Girelli returns to duty with Italy.
- Midfielder Taylor Huff and goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz join the U.S. U-23s.
For Barry, though, this window is different. From Congleton to San Jose, via Manchester United and England’s youth set-up, her path now runs straight through Wembley and into one of the most competitive national team environments in the women’s game.
Two qualifiers. A historic 500th match. A first cap on the line.
It is no longer about potential for Keira Barry. It is about what she does when the Lionesses’ shirt is finally hers.
