Jurgen Klopp Sets Tough New Rules for Germany Ahead of Nations League Clash

Jurgen Klopp has introduced a strict set of rules for the German squad as they prepare for their upcoming Nations League match against the Netherlands. The former Liverpool manager is keen to reshape the team culture with clear boundaries and heightened professionalism.

Changes in Team Culture

Since taking charge this summer, Klopp, 59, has quickly changed how the national team operates daily. According to Blid, he implemented a series of disciplinary measures aiming to tighten focus and build unity within the group. These moves mark a shift from the approach of former coach Julian Nagelsmann, signaling Klopp’s desire to foster a stronger team bond ahead of the next international cycle.

New Dining Protocols

One noticeable change affects meal times at the hotel. Previously, under Nagelsmann, players could arrive for dinner flexibly between 7pm and 8pm. Klopp ended that leniency, demanding the entire squad be seated promptly when meals begin.

Strict Limits on Electronics

The coach has also restricted mobile phone use during certain training activities, including gym sessions and treatment periods on matchdays. Klopp wants players fully focused and present during these moments, cutting distractions from electronic devices. He believes these periods are vital for building team spirit and encouraging engagement among players and staff.

Raising Professional Standards

A unique rule now bans professional haircuts inside the team hotel or training sites. Klopp views the national team setting as a workplace strictly for football-related activities. This regulation reinforces that personal tasks, like grooming, should happen outside team time, helping maintain an atmosphere centered on work rather than comfort.

Family Visits Are More Restricted

In contrast to Nagelsmann’s more open policy toward family visits during international breaks, Klopp has tightened access. Now family visits will only be allowed on designated occasions, aiming to keep the team focused and growing together during their stay at the base.

These new rules will be tested soon as Germany faces the Netherlands in their UEFA Nations League game on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 21:45.
