Juan Bezerra Leaves Zamalek for Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai
Zamalek have drawn a firm line under Juan Alvina Bezerra’s brief but eventful spell in Cairo, confirming the Brazilian’s move to Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai after just one season in the White shirt.
The club’s board, headed by Hussein Labib, announced on Saturday that a final agreement had been reached with the UAE side, bringing to an end weeks of tension, absence, and negotiation.
“The board of Zamalek, chaired by Hussein Labib, announces that an agreement has been reached regarding the transfer of Brazilian Juan Bezerra to Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai of the UAE, after the requirements set by Zamalek at the start of the negotiations in the summer transfer window this year were met,” the club said in an official statement.
From Key Man to Departure Lounge
Bezerra arrived last season and wasted little time making an impact. Across all competitions he featured in 44 matches, scoring 8 goals and supplying 12 assists. At times he carried Zamalek’s attacking burden, stitching moves together and deciding games with either a finish or a final pass.
Those numbers helped drive the White Knights through several competitions and ended with the ultimate domestic prize: the Egyptian Premier League title, his first and only trophy in the famous White shirt.
Then the mood shifted.
As the new season approached, Bezerra skipped the preparation period and stayed away from matches, making it clear he wanted out during the current summer window. His stance left him at odds with the club just as the campaign was taking shape and forced Zamalek into a decision.
Return, Resolution, and a One-Way Ticket
Cairo finally saw him again last Saturday. Bezerra returned from his spell away from training, but not to reintegrate. He pushed for a fresh challenge, and talks with Shabab Al-Ahli accelerated over the following days.
Zamalek granted him permission to travel to the UAE to undergo his medical, a clear sign that the end was close. Once the tests were done, the path cleared quickly. On Saturday, the club confirmed what had become inevitable: Bezerra was leaving the White Castle after a single, condensed season.
On the other side of the deal, Shabab Al-Ahli chose a more playful tone. From their official account came the line: “They searched for the date of the announcement.. Dubai is the destination”.
For Zamalek, it closes a short story that burned bright, then ended on the player’s own request. For Bezerra, the destination is set. Now he has to prove that Dubai is more than just a line in a presentation tweet.
