Ivan Toney Charged with Assault After Nightclub Incident

England striker Ivan Toney has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm following an incident at a London nightclub in Soho.

The charge, brought on July 31, relates to an alleged incident on Dec. 6, 2025. Toney is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Sept. 24.

A spokesperson for Toney said the forward “acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court.” The case now moves from speculation to the scrutiny of the courtroom, with Toney intent on contesting the allegation.

The 28-year-old currently plays for Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, a move that followed his rise through English football and onto the international stage. His form earned him a place in England’s World Cup squad earlier this summer, a selection that underlined his status as one of Gareth Southgate’s attacking options.

Toney came off the bench as a late substitute in the 2-1 semifinal defeat to Argentina, thrown on as England chased an equaliser in a frantic finish that never quite came. His only start of the tournament arrived in the third-place playoff against France, a chaotic 6-4 win for England that felt more like a wild exhibition than a consolation match.

He has 10 caps for his country and one international goal, a modest return on paper but enough to keep him in the conversation around England’s forward line.

Now his immediate future will be shaped not by selection meetings or tactical plans, but by a date in a Westminster courtroom in late September.
