It explains why many around Anfield would not be shocked to see him go. A sale now would likely represent Liverpool’s first major outgoing of the summer under Andoni Iraola, who has yet to see a senior player depart for a significant fee. For a club that has often funded evolution through smart exits, the timing feels familiar.
And Jones is not the only name in the frame.
