Harry Kane Considers NFL Career After MLS Move, Eyes Placekicker Role

Harry Kane, Bayern Munich striker and England captain, shared his thoughts on life after football ahead of the UEFA Nations League match against Spain. He revealed that a future transfer to Major League Soccer (MLS) might open the door for him to pursue a career as an NFL placekicker within five to six years.

From Bayern Munich to NFL? Kane's Ambitious Plan

At 33, fresh off an impressive season scoring 73 goals for Bayern Munich, Kane is among the frontrunners for the 2026 Ballon d'Or. Despite this peak, he has begun to look far beyond his current success. During a media session at St George's Park, he spoke about the possibility of combining an MLS stint with training to become a professional kicker in American football.

Proof That Soccer to NFL Transition Is Possible

Kane pointed to players like Brandon Aubrey, the Dallas Cowboys kicker who started in MLS with Toronto FC, as evidence that the switch from soccer to NFL kicking roles works. Another example is former Tottenham striker Clive Allen, who played for the London Monarchs in NFL Europe. Kane’s own precise penalty-taking skills form the foundation of his belief that the technique translates well to placekicking.

"Maybe if I am in the MLS in the future or somewhere like that, it might be a thing where you could connect the two maybe with the seasons," Kane said, according to The Athletic. "That is something I will try and look at a bit more seriously. It all depends on what happens in my career over the next five or six years, the motivation and what I want to do. The NFL is a lot more realistic than the golf one, let's put it that way."

He also stressed the similarity between penalty kicks and NFL placekicks in terms of pressure and technique, saying he would take training seriously, dedicating six months to a year to prepare if he pursued this path.

Focus Remains on Bayern and England

Kane emphasized that this ambition is not immediate and remains a distant plan while he continues to perform at the highest level in Europe. "If people know I am still on the top of my game here with football, it is not a conversation that would be had," he explained. He is focused on maximizing his remaining prime years, though the idea of a dual-sport career is becoming more tangible with MLS seen as a likely late-career destination.
