Harry Kane's Future: Bayern Priority Amid Saudi Interest

Harry Kane’s name is never far from a headline, and this summer is no different. While the England captain chases a first Ballon d’Or, his camp have been busy exploring what comes next in his career.

Representatives for the Bayern Munich striker have held talks with Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal, with Kane understood to be open to a move there at some stage in the future. The door is not closed on the Gulf.

Right now, though, his focus is on Bavaria. The 33-year-old wants to stay at Bayern, and early discussions over a new contract in Munich are already under way. Any sudden twist would have to come fast: the Bundesliga transfer window shuts on 31 August, leaving little room for late drama if Al-Hilal try to force the issue.

Al-Hilal eye double England swoop

Al-Hilal’s attention is not fixed solely on Kane. They are also pushing hard for another England international: Ollie Watkins.

The Aston Villa striker is reported to have agreed personal terms with the Saudi club, but Al-Hilal have yet to submit a formal bid to Villa for the 30-year-old. Confusion reigns over their exact plan. Some reports suggest Watkins is the alternative after an initial move for Kane stalled. Others insist the Riyadh club want more than one marquee striker.

If they get both? Then the real contest starts. Kane and Watkins fighting for the same shirt in the desert heat would be a storyline of its own.

Gavi snubs Manchester United for Barcelona stay

One name who will not be lighting up Old Trafford is Gavi. Manchester United made a move for the Spain World Cup winner, but he has turned down the chance to join the Premier League club.

His decision is clear: he wants to remain at Barcelona.

For United supporters already impatient with a quiet window at the top end of the market, it is another blow. The concern is no longer just about who is not arriving. It is also about who might be leaving.

Napoli circle Zirkzee and scan Premier League forwards

Napoli have emerged as one of the most active hunters in this market. Among their targets is Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee. The Netherlands international spent much of last season coming off the bench under Michael Carrick, and the Italian club sense an opportunity.

Their search does not stop there. Napoli have contacted Chelsea about Nicolas Jackson and have also made enquiries over Gabriel Jesus at Arsenal. Any move for Jesus, though, comes with a condition: they would need to offload one of their current forwards before bringing the Brazilian in.

It is a classic Serie A balancing act. Ambition on one side, financial reality on the other.

Milan shut door on Loftus-Cheek bid

Elsewhere in Italy, Milan have rebuffed an approach from newly promoted Coventry for Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Coventry wanted to bring the 30-year-old midfielder back to the Premier League for the first time since 2023, when he was at Chelsea, and lodged an £8.5m offer. Milan said no. For now, Loftus-Cheek stays in Serie A and Coventry’s search for top-flight experience goes on.

Manchester City hunt Rodri replacement

Back in England, Manchester City have taken a hit in the middle of the pitch. Rodri completed his move to Barcelona on Tuesday, ripping out one of the key pillars of Enzo Maresca’s side before the new manager has even settled into his chair.

Maresca now has to rebuild his midfield. High on his list is Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, who has quickly established himself as one of the most interesting English midfielders of his age group. The problem? No one seems quite sure what Palace will demand.

That uncertainty matters. City have already spent £116m on Elliot Anderson in this window. Any move for Wharton will have to be judged carefully against that outlay.

The market is moving fast. The question now is who blinks first: the clubs clinging to their stars, or the giants willing to push the numbers higher yet again.
