Everton Signs Jutta Rantala from Leicester City

Everton have moved decisively in the market, agreeing a deal to sign Finland international Jutta Rantala from relegated Leicester City in a transfer that underlines their intent to climb the Women’s Super League table.

Leicester confirmed Rantala still has a year left on her contract, so Everton will pay a fee for the 26-year-old, who was the Foxes’ standout performer before injury halted her momentum.

This is not a one-off raid. It is the latest step in a growing pipeline between the two clubs. France forward Noemie Mouchon has already swapped Leicester for Merseyside on a free this summer, while Wales international Hannah Cain has also returned to Everton from the Foxes.

Now comes the headline act.

Rantala arrived at Leicester from Swedish side Vittsjo GIK in 2023 and wasted little time making an impact. She scored 13 goals in 48 appearances, led the line with authority and quickly became the focal point of their attack.

2023-24 Campaign

Her 2023-24 campaign was outstanding. Top goalscorer. Player of the season. The kind of forward who drags a team up the pitch and changes the tone of a game with one clean strike.

Then came the setback. A knee injury the following campaign checked her progress and, for Leicester, it proved one more blow in a season that ended with relegation from the WSL in June.

Relegation always brings a clear-out. Rantala is set to become the sixth player to depart this summer, another key figure leaving a squad that only a year ago was being built around her.

Her pedigree stretches well beyond club level. On the international stage, Rantala has 10 goals in 36 appearances for Finland and was part of the squad at Euro 2025, a reminder that when fit she operates comfortably at the highest level.

For Everton, this is about more than numbers. It is about reshaping an attack and a dressing room.

They finished eighth in the WSL last season, a campaign overshadowed by the departure of manager Brian Sorensen and the uncertainty that followed. Stability has arrived in the form of Scott Phelan, confirmed as Sorensen’s permanent successor this summer, and recruitment has followed quickly.

Rantala would be their fourth signing of the window, but she carries the profile of a statement addition: proven in the league, international experience, and a track record of delivering when trusted as the main attacking outlet.
