Eli Junior Kroupi: Bournemouth’s Untouchable Dreaming of Barcelona
Eli Junior Kroupi has made up his mind. His heart is in Barcelona. His contract, though, is in Bournemouth.
According to COPE journalist Helena Condis, the 20-year-old French striker wants to join FC Barcelona this summer, placing himself firmly on the Catalan club’s radar as one of the main alternatives to priority target Julian Alvarez.
Barcelona have already moved quietly in the background. Exploratory talks have taken place with Kroupi’s camp and with AFC Bournemouth, sounding out both the player’s will and the club’s stance. One side is all in. The other is digging in.
A breakout year, a bigger dream
Kroupi arrives in this story off the back of a highly promising first season in the Premier League. In his debut campaign in England in 2025/26, he played 35 matches for Bournemouth and scored 13 goals. The numbers do not scream superstar yet, but the performances did enough talking: movement between the lines, sharp finishing, and a knack for finding space against some of the toughest defences in Europe.
That was enough to catch Barcelona’s eye. For Kroupi, the interest is more than flattering. It is the dream.
He reportedly views a move to the Spotify Camp Nou as the pinnacle, an “absolute dream” scenario, and would jump at the chance to pull on the Blaugrana shirt. At 20, with one strong Premier League season behind him, he sees Barcelona as the ideal next step, not a distant fantasy.
The problem? Bournemouth see him as the future too.
Bournemouth draw a line in the sand
Inside the south-coast club, the message is blunt: Kroupi is not for sale.
Bournemouth consider the French forward “untouchable” in their sporting project. Rather than a player to cash in on, he is a cornerstone around whom they want to build. To reinforce that stance, the Premier League side have slapped a huge €130 million price tag on him, a figure designed less as an invitation and more as a deterrent.
That number matters. Barcelona are already reluctant to cross the €100 million line for Julian Alvarez, the man they still regard as their main target for the centre-forward role. If they will not go that high for a more established, title-winning Argentina international, matching or surpassing €130 million for Kroupi looks even more unlikely.
So the standoff is clear: a player who wants to go, a club that refuses to sell, and a suitor that must watch its spending.
Alvarez first, Kroupi waiting in the wings
For now, everything in Barcelona’s forward planning still orbits around Alvarez.
The Catalan club continue to work on unlocking a deal with Atletico Madrid, trying to break the deadlock that has stalled negotiations. Their offer for the Argentine international is on the table, but it will not stay there forever; it is set to expire at the end of this month.
That deadline could become the trigger. If there is no breakthrough with Atleti, Barcelona may decide to turn up the volume on their interest in Kroupi. The Frenchman is already on their list, already keen, already dreaming. He is the contingency plan with star potential.
But the same wall stands in the way. Bournemouth’s reluctance to sell, underpinned by that €130 million valuation, threatens to block any serious move before it even starts. For Hansi Flick and his staff, the financial and sporting equation is as complicated as it is tempting.
Barcelona want a new No. 9. Kroupi wants Barcelona. Bournemouth want to keep their rising star.
Something will have to give. The only question is whether it happens in time for this window, or if Kroupi’s dream has to wait while Barcelona’s striker search takes another turn.
