Eduardo Camavinga's Commitment to Real Madrid Shuts Door for Manchester United

Eduardo Camavinga has made his call. And for Manchester United, it is not the answer they wanted.

The Real Madrid midfielder has decided to stay at the Bernabeu and shut the door on a move to Old Trafford, according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports that the Frenchman is now even more determined to fight for his place in Madrid’s midfield.

This comes at a crucial moment for United. Their rebuild in the middle of the pitch is well underway, with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans already through the door, but the plan has always involved adding a more defensive-minded presence to complete the overhaul. Camavinga was one of the standout names on their list.

United made their move in July. Romano revealed that the club contacted Camavinga’s representatives to gauge his interest and keep informed about any potential opening. The response was blunt and consistent – not just to United, but to every club that asked.

Camavinga wants Real Madrid. Only Real Madrid.

At 23, the Frenchman is coming off a bruising season, one poor enough to cost him a place in France’s World Cup squad. Inside the game, though, the consensus remains that last year was a stumble, not a slide. His ceiling is still rated sky-high, and Real’s internal reshaping has just handed him fresh oxygen.

The Spanish giants have already brought in Bernardo Silva to add creativity and control. Their grand plan, though, went even further. Real Madrid approved a move for 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, the Manchester City metronome who has defined the modern holding midfield role.

But approval never turned into action. No formal bid, no serious push. The hesitation opened the door for Barcelona, and their rivals stormed through it.

Barca have agreed personal terms with Rodri and are driving towards a club-to-club deal expected to land around €70m. With Rodri now giving full priority to Barcelona, Real have walked away from the chase altogether.

That decision changes everything for Camavinga.

Rodri operates in the exact same zone of the pitch. His arrival would have shoved Camavinga further down the pecking order and raised serious questions about his long-term role in Madrid’s structure. Without Rodri, the path looks far clearer.

Romano summed up the situation on his YouTube channel, explaining that Camavinga has repeated the same message to every suitor: he wants to stay, he wants to continue at Real Madrid, and he is not changing his mind. The Rodri twist has only hardened that stance. With the Spaniard no longer coming, Camavinga is, in Romano’s words, “even more motivated” to remain and keep trying to convince Jose Mourinho he should be a cornerstone of the new-look midfield.

For United, it means one of their most attractive options is off the table, despite what Romano described as “confirmed and concrete” interest from the Premier League side.

The search goes on.

United’s recruitment team have cast the net wide in the defensive midfield market. Manu Kone, Sander Berge, Carlos Baleba and Tyler Adams are among the names linked as alternatives, each offering a different profile but all capable of anchoring the centre of the pitch.

There is also an intriguing, more developmental option. Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly, capable of operating both at left-back and at the base of midfield, has been offered to United, with the Gunners understood to be open to cashing in.

Camavinga, though, is off-limits. Real Madrid have lost Rodri to Barcelona’s pull, but in the process they may have secured something just as important: a fully committed Eduardo Camavinga, determined to prove that last season was an aberration, not a verdict.
