Dominik Szoboszlai Signs New Liverpool Contract Until 2031
Dominik Szoboszlai has never sounded like a man interested in half-measures. Now his new contract reflects it.
Liverpool’s driving force in midfield has signed a five-year extension that ties him to Anfield until 2031, ending months of speculation and firmly planting the Hungary captain at the heart of the club’s long-term plans.
The 25-year-old arrived from RB Leipzig in 2023 for £60m and wasted no time justifying the fee. Across last season he became the Reds’ standout performer, scoring 13 goals and supplying 12 assists, dragging games in Liverpool’s direction with the kind of authority that quickly made him indispensable.
He has no intention of easing off.
"There's always more to come. I'm never happy," Szoboszlai said, laying bare the mentality that has endeared him to the Kop. "I want to set the example. I want to be an example also for everyone, as much as I can.
"When I signed, I said I want to win everything. That didn't change for a little moment either. It stayed the same.
"I want to win everything that is possible in this country, also let's say the Champions League. I'm ready to go for it."
Those aren’t empty words from a fringe player. They come from a footballer Liverpool now view as a central pillar of their next era.
A Statement Deal
Szoboszlai still had two years left on his previous contract, but the club moved to lock him down early after a season that pushed him into the elite bracket. Talks between his representatives and Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes had been ongoing for months, before accelerating in recent weeks and finally reaching agreement this week.
Both sides see the same picture: a player whose peak years are still ahead of him and a club intent on building around his blend of intensity, creativity and leadership.
In February, Mohamed Salah – who has since left Anfield – described Szoboszlai as "one of the best players in the world". Coming from a modern Liverpool great, it sounded like a passing of the torch. The new deal makes that subtext explicit.
