Cole Palmer’s Manchester United links refuse to die down. If anything, they’ve just been given fresh oxygen.

William Gallas, never shy of a bold opinion, is convinced the Chelsea playmaker is destined to end up at Old Trafford – just not yet.

Gallas: “He will definitely go to Manchester United”

Palmer, who left Manchester City for Chelsea in 2023 in a £42.5m move, has already become the heartbeat of Stamford Bridge’s attack. But behind the blue shirt sits a red childhood allegiance. Despite 13 years at the Etihad, Palmer grew up a United fan, a detail that keeps fuelling speculation around his future.

“I don’t think Cole Palmer will go right now. I don’t think it’s time to go right now,” the former Chelsea and France defender told iPredicta.

“He will definitely go to Manchester United in the future if he’s a big fan, if he’s got a dream to play for Man United, he will definitely go there, but right now I don’t think so.

“I think he needs to have one more big season as he did two years ago, before he got his injury problem, then he might move.”

That’s the crux of Gallas’ view: one more standout campaign in Chelsea blue, then the door to Old Trafford swings open. Not as a gamble. As a ready-made leader.

United’s Chelsea connection grows

Gallas’ comments land just as another thread between Chelsea and United tightens.

Andrey Santos has completed his switch from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford, signing a five-year deal. United will pay an initial £48m, with a further £2m in add-ons, for the Brazilian midfielder as they attempt to reshape their core with youth and energy.

Santos wanted minutes, not promises. Chelsea couldn’t guarantee the first-team rhythm he craved. United offered a clearer path and, with it, a new stage.

The move came with a personal touch from Palmer himself.

“So pleased. I got a message from Cole [Palmer], he sent a message because he was born here [Manchester], so he knows everything here,” Santos revealed.

“He said all the best for you, for your career, you deserve this, a lot of things. So I'm so excited to be here in Manchester with my new teammates.”

It was a simple message of support, nothing more on the surface. Yet it underlines a reality: Palmer still understands Manchester, still feels close enough to send advice to a friend stepping into United’s world.

For now, that’s where the story ends – a Chelsea star, a boyhood United fan, publicly committed to life in London while former players predict an eventual homecoming up the road at Old Trafford.
