Carragher Urges Liverpool to Sign Right Winger Amid Barcola Talks

Jamie Carragher has warned that Liverpool “desperately” need to sign a specialist right winger, as the club open talks with Paris Saint-Germain for Bradley Barcola.

The former Liverpool defender, speaking on social media, questioned the logic of targeting another left-sided forward at a time when the right flank looks exposed in the post-Mohamed Salah era.

Carragher was responding to a Sky Sports post on X asking if Barcola could be Salah’s replacement at Anfield. His reply was blunt and immediate.

“No, he plays on the opposite flank!” he wrote, cutting through any suggestion that the PSG winger is a like-for-like successor to Salah.

The 21-year-old Barcola has built his reputation operating predominantly from the left, cutting inside onto his stronger foot. That profile, Carragher argued, is exactly what Liverpool already have in abundance.

“LFC currently have three players who could play from the left in Rio/Gakpo/Wirtz & no one who plays from the right,” he added, highlighting a growing imbalance in the squad’s attacking options.

With negotiations underway for Barcola, the debate around Liverpool’s recruitment strategy has sharpened. Carragher’s message was clear: the hole on the right wing isn’t a theoretical problem for later. It’s a priority, and in his view, it can’t be ignored.
