Outgoing Eldense President Carolina Holguin Appeals to Lionel Messi After Club Takeover
Carolina Holguin's Farewell to Eldense and Message to Lionel Messi
The outgoing president of Eldense, Carolina Holguin, has made a heartfelt appeal to the club’s new owner, Lionel Messi, following his recent acquisition of the Spanish second-division team. The Colombian executive confirmed her departure while urging Messi to respect the club’s 105-year legacy and bring ambitious dreams to the city of Elda.
Holguin Steps Down After Key Contributions
Holguin’s tenure at Estadio Municipal Nuevo Pepico Amat concluded as Messi finalized the takeover of the club. Since acquiring shares from Pascual Perez in October 2025, she played a significant role in promoting the men's first team back to La Liga and advancing the women’s squad alongside the youth academy. She also encouraged fans to warmly welcome Messi from day one.
Peaceful Transition to a Legendary Figure
In an official statement released by the club, Holguin expressed pride in handing over control to one of football’s greatest icons. She said, “For me, being able to hand over the reins of this club to him today is an enormous source of pride and, above all, gives me the peace of mind of knowing that I leave it in the best hands.” She also added a direct request: “Take care of it, respect what it means to its people and, above all, bring big dreams to Elda.”
Challenging Presidency and Hope for the Future
Her leadership was marked by tough operational decisions aimed at securing the club’s financial stability. Holguin acknowledged that many of these choices were difficult and sometimes unpopular. Despite this, she remains hopeful about Eldense’s future under Messi’s ownership, whom she called the greatest living legend in football.
