Benjamin Sesko Reflects on Painful Draw Against Everton Despite Scoring First Goal of Season

Sesko Reflects on Late Draw with Everton

Benjamin Sesko expressed his disappointment after Manchester United conceded a stoppage-time equaliser against Everton, despite scoring his first goal of the season. The Slovenian forward came off the bench at Hill Dickinson Stadium and headed United into the lead, but the home side leveled in the 96th minute to leave the match at 2-2.

Striker Ends Goal Drought

Sesko marked his return from injury by opening his season's scoring tally after being introduced as a second-half substitute. He connected with an accurate cross from Luke Shaw, delivering a powerful header past Jordan Pickford to give the Red Devils a 2-1 advantage in the 88th minute. Still, Ainsley Maitland-Niles struck a spectacular goal in stoppage time to deny United the win.

Frustration Over Late Equaliser

Despite the positive step of scoring, Sesko was clearly upset about losing the three points so late. Speaking to MUTV, he said:

"We're very disappointed, of course, because we were very close and yet so far. To concede a goal like that in the last minute, it's painful for everyone because everyone was giving everything to try and win the game. Every single person here wants that. In moments like this, where a last shot decides it, it's very painful."

Signs of Recovery After Injury Setbacks

The goal is a boost for Sesko, 23, who had fitness problems disrupting much of his pre-season. He tried to focus on the positives from his performance and the team's effort:

"For me, it's the best feeling when I'm scoring, especially for a club like this. When I can provide goals and points for the team - it's my job at the end of the day. It's nice to be back with the team and experience all the games again. Of course, I wish today we had won, but we can't change that."

He added, "It's really important to take everything as positive even when it's not the best option from today. To see the game in a good light, to try and improve and focus for the next game."

Looking Ahead to European Challenge

After featuring from the bench in matches against Hull City, Ipswich Town, and Everton, Sesko aims to earn a full starting spot as his fitness improves. Michael Carrick's squad must recover quickly from the Premier League disappointment as they prepare for midweek European action. Manchester United will host Azerbaijani champions Sabah FK at Old Trafford on Thursday to begin their Champions League campaign.
