Barcelona Unveils New Squad at Gamper Trophy

Barcelona unveiled their new-look squad to a packed Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday, turning the traditional Joan Gamper Trophy curtain-raiser into a statement of intent for the season ahead.

New faces, old rivalry

One by one, the players emerged from the tunnel before the 61st edition of the Gamper clash against Al Ahly, joined by a cluster of La Masia youngsters who have forced their way into Hansi Flick’s pre-season plans. It was part parade, part promise.

Three names drew the loudest roar. Rodri. Anthony Gordon. Karim Adeyemi.

The anticipation around the trio crackled around the stadium, but it was Rodri who owned the moment. The midfielder, who chose Barça over Real Madrid, was greeted as much more than a signing. This felt like a small victory in the eternal battle with the Bernabéu, and the fans responded accordingly.

Flick’s first words at Camp Nou

Then came Hansi Flick.

For the German coach, this was his third squad presentation with the club, but his first time stepping up to the microphone inside the Spotify Camp Nou. He did it in Catalan, and he did it with visible emotion.

"I'm very happy to be here. When I lost my father, I received incredible support from the Barça family. You were there for my family. From the bottom of my heart, thank you very much."

The stadium answered with a long, warm ovation. It felt less like a coach addressing supporters and more like a man speaking to people who had carried him through a difficult moment.

Once the applause faded, Flick shifted gears. Gratitude gave way to ambition.

"We have a great team thanks to Deco and Laporta. We're ready to fight for every trophy. We need all the Barça fans. Together we're stronger. Visca el Barça i Visca Catalunya."

It was a clear message: the squad is built, the targets are set, and there will be no hiding from expectations.

Raphinha steps up as captain

If Flick set the tone from the bench, Raphinha picked it up on the pitch.

The Brazilian, now serving as Barcelona’s provisional first captain, addressed the crowd for the first time as the squad’s main representative. His speech was short, sharp, and deeply personal.

He started not with himself, but with Roony Bardghji, the talented youngster currently sidelined by injury.

"Good afternoon, Cules. I want to wish Roony a speedy recovery. He's going through a difficult time. He's a spectacular kid and a great player. He can count on us for whatever he needs."

In a few lines, Raphinha showed exactly the kind of captain he intends to be: present, protective, aware of the dressing-room mood.

He then turned to another group who deserved the spotlight – the Barcelona players returning as freshly crowned world champions with Spain.

"I want to congratulate the world champions. They've done a spectacular job. Be proud. You'll be written into the history of world football."

Camp Nou responded with pride. Those players have lifted the biggest trophy of all, and now bring that winning aura back into the club’s dressing room.

Wearing the shirt, carrying the weight

Raphinha closed by looking outward and inward at the same time – welcoming the new arrivals while explaining what this club means to him.

He spoke of the Barcelona shirt not as a privilege alone, but as a burden to be embraced.

"Wearing this shirt is a huge responsibility, but it's one of the most beautiful things I've experienced in my life. It will be the same for the new signings. We'll be available to help them and make them feel at home."

On a night built around ceremony, those words cut through the noise. The squad is assembled, the coach is backed, the captain has found his voice.

Now the Gamper is out of the way, only one question really hangs over this Barcelona side: can all this emotion and expectation be turned into trophies when the real season begins?
