Barcelona Faces Stalemate in Rodri Transfer Negotiations
Barcelona have run straight into Manchester City’s valuation of Rodri, and right now the deal looks exactly what it is: stuck.
The Catalan club opened with a 50 million euro offer for the midfielder in this summer window, a bid that City dismissed without hesitation. The response from Manchester was blunt. Nowhere near enough.
Barça, aware they are dealing for a player widely regarded as the best at the 2026 World Cup and the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, are prepared to edge higher. Spanish outlet Sport reports that the club are ready to go up to 60 million euros to try to prise Rodri away.
Even that barely moves the dial.
City, according to Marca, have set their line in the sand at 70 million euros for the 30-year-old. Below that, they are not interested in talking, no matter how cordial the relationship between the two clubs might be. For Pep Guardiola’s side, Rodri is not just another starter; he is the anchor of a system, the reference point in and out of possession.
And replacing that does not come cheap.
On City’s shortlist, Morocco international Ayoub Bouaddi of Lyon stands out. His price, according to AS, is projected to soar beyond 100 million euros, potentially up to 130 million. Enzo Fernández at Chelsea is another name high on their agenda. Those figures explain City’s stance: if they are to lose Rodri, the outgoing fee has to help fund an extremely expensive succession plan.
Barcelona, weighed down by their own financial constraints, have no appetite for matching City’s 70 million euro demand. That gap in valuation is where the deal currently lives.
A key meeting now looms. Hugo Viana and Deco, the sporting directors of Manchester City and Barcelona respectively, are expected to sit down soon in an attempt to navigate the impasse. It will be a test of Barça’s negotiating creativity and City’s resolve.
Barcelona had quietly hoped to have Rodri back in their colours by Wednesday, ready to report and start work under their coaching staff. That scenario is slipping away by the hour.
As things stand, the midfielder is expected to return to Manchester to resume training with City. Only a dramatic late shift — either City softening their stance or Barcelona finding a way to bridge the price gap — can change that trajectory in the coming hours.
For now, the clock ticks, the numbers don’t move, and one of the summer’s most ambitious pursuits hangs by a thread.
