Arsenal's Winger Search: Vinicius Junior Decision Ends Pursuit

Arsenal’s pursuit of Vinicius Junior is over. The dream target has signed away any hope of a Premier League move, committing his future to Real Madrid with a new six-year contract.

Arsenal pushed. Hard. They made a serious bid for the 26-year-old and edged close to agreeing personal terms. For a moment, it looked bold and plausible: the Premier League contenders prising away one of Madrid’s crown jewels.

Then reality bit. Vinicius chose the Bernabeu and a long-term deal, shutting the door on Arsenal and forcing the club to look elsewhere for the elite left-sided forward Mikel Arteta still craves.

Arsenal reset their winger plan

The need hasn’t gone away. Arsenal still want a top-level left winger and, according to reports, three names sit firmly on their shortlist.

Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez tops it. Arteta is a huge admirer of the Argentine, seeing him as the kind of high-intensity, technically sharp forward who can slot straight into his system. But admiration is the easy part. Getting him out of Atletico is another matter entirely.

Atletico have made their stance plain: Alvarez is not for sale. Barcelona, strong contenders in the race, have also been circling, turning this into the kind of transfer battle that usually ends with a stubborn selling club and frustrated suitors.

So Arsenal keep their options open.

Barcola in the crossfire

Bradley Barcola offers a different profile and a different kind of challenge.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward is tied to Parc des Princes until 2028, yet he is refusing to sign a new deal. That stand-off has alerted clubs across Europe, and Arsenal are among those watching closely.

Liverpool have moved from interest to intent. They are set to launch a €115m bid to PSG, who value Barcola at around €150m. That gap in valuation tells its own story: this is a player PSG see as a “prized talent,” and they will make any deal as painful as possible for buyers.

If Arsenal want to join that fight, they will have to decide whether Barcola is worth entering a bidding war with Liverpool and testing PSG’s resolve at the very top end of the market.

Ndiaye: the Premier League alternative

The third option sits closer to home.

Iliman Ndiaye has emerged as another serious consideration for Arsenal. The Everton forward offers Premier League experience and a different route to strengthening the left side of the attack.

Ndiaye scored six goals and added three assists last season, then carried that form onto the international stage by finding the net for Senegal in their World Cup group game against Iraq. It was the kind of moment that cements a player’s reputation beyond club level.

But again, this will not be a bargain hunt. Ndiaye, 26, is under contract at Everton until 2029. That length of deal hands the Merseyside club total control over his future and the freedom to demand a premium fee from any suitor, Arsenal included.

So Arsenal stand at a familiar crossroads: Vinicius gone, Alvarez locked down, Barcola expensive, Ndiaye costly. The need for a left winger is clear. The question now is how far they are willing to push to find the one who changes their season.
